EAT
—ELECTRICITY Acts There—
Asahi Kasei Corp. and tripod design Co., Ltd. will cooperate in producing an art exhibition entitled “EAT” that features the use of step-up ICs to generate environmental power. The title of the exhibit, “EAT” , combines the meaning of the term to “eat” with its use as an acronym for “Electricity Acts There” . Step-up ICs (electric circuits) developed through advanced technology will be employed in an installation that turns on LEDs using only the small amount of power obtained from soil. The soil utilized in this exhibit will utilize compost produced from collecting and reusing food waste within New York City (in cooperation with the NYC Compost Project). Under the Food Loss and Food Waste environmental policy, the “food” that is returned to the earth symbolizes a recycling-based future wherein it is reborn as electrical power that supports our lives.
OUR TECHNOLOGY:
Energy harvesting is the technology that derives small amounts of energy directly from the environment and converts it into electric power. Efficient power management is a key component for energy harvesting. One of the biggest issues is that the energy consumption from the function of power management is greater than the energy supply derived from the environment. That is why there are so many energy sources in our natural environment that have never been fully employed, (e.g., optical energy, thermal energy, wind energy, and bioelectrochemical and kinetic energy). Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation has developed a step-up DC-DC converter that works while only consuming 1μW of power. T his converter, helps provide a long term, multipoint and low-cost sensing network, thus accelerating large-scale IoT (Internet of Things) implementations.
DESCRIPTION:
This exhibition will use electric circuits developed using advanced technology in order to extract a small amount of power from soil and randomly turn on 60LED lights installed throughout the gallery. We hope you will enjoy this environmental art installation employing soil and light.
